We’ve got a fun summer adventure that blasts off into space! Abigail wrote the story A Rocket to the Moon. Let’s dive into her out-of-this-world journey.

It’s a beautiful summer day in the backyard, and we meet Faith and Lane. As Lane jumps from the slide, she shouts over to Faith, “Look, Faith, I’m jumping to the moon!” Faith jumps from the space station and says, “Look over there, Lane, an alien.” Lane responds that they should try to catch him!

Faith and Lane are called in for dinner. They rush over to the dining table and talk about their space adventures. It’s time for bed, and Lane says to Faith, “What if we built a real rocket to go to the moon tomorrow?” Faith thinks it's a great idea, and they both fall asleep dreaming of rockets to the moon.

The next day, they head off to Papa’s garage for tools. They load up their wagon and head to the backyard. They get to work with a large cardboard box, scissors, a roll of tape, and paint.

They build their rocket, but they’ve got to figure out what to use for their boosters. Lane mentions that she sees some flower pots by the garage, which should give them enough power! Faith laughs and says the vines can boost them up to the clouds.

They pull the wagon back to the garage to get the pots, and Faith finds an old keyboard and gear shifter. They are the exact things they need for their control panel. They head back to the rocket to add on their new finds. Lane is excited and says that they are ready for lift-off! But Faith says they are missing one more thing.

Faith runs to the garage and grabs two motorcycle helmets. Faith says they need helmets to breathe in space. They climb into the rocket. “Start the countdown!” shouts Lane.

BLAST OFF! Faith and Lane rush to the window, looking down as the ground disappears. They climb out of their rocket and start bouncing around the moon. Faith pulls out a flag so that everyone will know they are on the moon. Together, they place the flag.

“Look! A real-life alien!” shouts Lane. They hop across the moon to catch him. He turns out to be a friendly alien, and they decide to put him on the ship. The countdown begins, and they blast off to head home.

They land safely back at home and head in to show everyone their alien friend. “Mom, look! We brought an alien home. Can we keep him?” they shout. Their mom thinks he’s very cute, and they excitedly jump up and down. They get to keep him!

Thank you, Abigail, for sharing this sweet story with us. We loved going on a moon mission with Faith and Lane! Continue reading to find out what Abigail had to say in her interview.
