Lulu Junior Author of the Month - Madison Terranova
There is no such thing as too much summer! Even though school is starting back, there are still a few warm and sunny days left to soak up at the pool or the beach, and that is exactly where September’s author of the month, Madison Terranova, was inspired to write her story!
How did this idea come to her, you may ask?
“A ladybug landed on my hand at the beach and he looked like he was a bit lonely and needed a friend because he didn’t fly away too fast like other bugs.”
Did you know that ladybugs bring good luck to the person they land on…but who knew that Madison would be bringing this ladybug his own luck by creating a story about him!
Our adventure begins with the lonely ladybug trying to find some friends to play with. He comes across Spider, but he only wanted to hang out with other eight-legged friends. We move on to the bumble bee, but he didn’t even give us the time of day. And the firefly was too busy lighting up the sky.
We move on from the butterfly, the mosquito, and the ants. It’s tough out there for this lonely ladybug and after a long and disappointing search, he decides to give it a rest for the night.
Luckily, the morning brings a new day, and with that comes a new adventure! The very lonely ladybug starts on his search again, and when he least expects it…his luck changes!
Staring into the lake, he saw what he thought was his reflection but it turned out to be another ladybug that looked just like him! Spots and all! The very lonely ladybug had finally found his best friend!
The ladybug that landed on Madison’s hand on the beach that day found his own friend in Madison, even if it was for a brief moment.
If there is one thing that Madison wants us to take away from her story, it's that you can always find a friend. She said it best, “With the new tomorrow came new hope for a new friend.” You just never know when your luck may change.
Thank you for sharing your story with us, Madison!
We are excited to see what she comes up with next, we’ll have to wait and find out what her next idea is. Maybe it’ll be about another ladybug, or a butterfly, or panda bears (her favorite animals)!

My nana got me my kit and I immediately started thinking about a story.
I have always loved to write and draw that is why I was so excited when my nana got me the kit.
A ladybug landed on my hand at the beach and he looked like he was a bit lonely and needed a friend because he didn’t fly away too fast like other bugs.
I love all animals but only some bugs. I really love ladybugs, butterflies, and panda bears.
My favorite part was when I got my book in the mail.
I was so excited to see my story come to life and to be able to read my own story to my little brothers before bed.
I dedicated my book to my nana because she is my best friend in the world.
I want people to remember that there is always a friend out there for them.
My advice to other young authors is to write down their ideas even if they seem silly at first.
