Author of the Month - Hannah J.
As school gets ready to begin, why not distract oneself with a good story? This month’s featured author is Hannah who wrote “Song’s Life.” Let’s get into the short story of Song and her surprise gift!
There once was a girl named Song who loved music. Her great-great-great grandfather on her mother’s side was a musician. An important element of this story is that Song always believed that her mother did not like music.
That night, Song has a dream that her great-great-great grandfather is still alive. In her dream, they play piano and sing together. Song’s dream is cut short when her mother comes to wake her up. Her mom has a surprise for Song in the kitchen.
What is the surprise? Song’s mother gives her the music speaker that she wanted! But… there are a few rules! Song’s mother said, “Rule 1, the speaker is a privilege; rule 2, the speaker is only used when it needs to be used; rule 3, keep it out of my room.” Song agrees to all the rules.
Two weeks pass and Song is eating breakfast. She could hear music coming from upstairs. Song’s mother also hears it and asks, “What was all that noise?” Song asks her mom if she happened to be playing her speaker. Song’s mom responded, “Well, I just saw it on the ground and so I turned it on, and then I just heard that hip hop music, and well I started singing and dancing.”
Song is surprised. She had always believed that her mom didn’t like music. It turns out that Song’s mom actually loves music but she gets sad because when she thinks of music, she thinks of Song’s great-great-great grandfather who passed away.
Song and her mom decide to sit on the couch and watch TV to distract themselves from the sad thoughts. And they lived happily ever after!
