Lulu Junior Author of the Month - Elena Stave
Did you know that pigs love books? Well, maybe not all pigs, but at least one! Our Lulu Junior Author of the Month Elena Stave tells us all about it in her story, “Pig Had a Book”.
In this story, a pig named Pie loves his books so much he takes them on all of his adventures. They even go skiing together! Wondering which book is Pie’s favorite?
“My favorite book is Corduroy, so I think that is Pie’s favorite too,” says Elena.
This was all well and good until one day, Pie’s beloved books decide to run away!
Why write a story about a pig being best friends with books, you ask? Elena, the mastermind behind the story, tells us herself: “When I was younger, my favorite animal was a pig and I always love reading. So, I made a shorter book. When I received the Illustory kit, it needed to be a longer story, so I changed and added to the story.”
Elena had some help along the way with putting the finishing touches on her book.
"My oldest sister, Emilia, spell-checked it for me before I made my final draft," says our Author of the Month.
And we’re glad she did! The spell-checked story now includes Pie’s book companions frantically traveling through a cupcake forest and taking an excursion through a mushroom garden! Luckily, Pie the pig is not distracted by the delicious scenery as he searches for his books.
Fortunately, Pie is able to rescue his books from Evil Pie! But the reader doesn’t have much time to celebrate as the story ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. Although Pie instructs his books to never leave again, Elena ends the story by letting the reader know that books don’t listen, possibly foreshadowing future jailbreaks.
For now, we will have to keep wondering, as the prolific writer has already moved onto her next project.
“The story I am writing now is a mystery about magical robots,” says Elena.

I received it as a Christmas gift from my parents. They found it at Hub Hobby, my favorite toy store in Roseville, Minnesota.

Thinking about what to add and how to change the story.
Amazing!!
