Lulu Junior Author of the Month - Zachary Spencer
Just in time for Halloween, we’ve got a story about the ups and downs of cloning yourself in the latest edition of Lulu Junior’s Author of the Month series!
Have you ever imagined what it would be like to clone yourself? It’s okay, we all know the answer is yes. Our Author of the Month Zachary Spencer, with some help from his good friend Jacob Mattson, shows us some possible scenarios to watch out for if you ever get the chance!
Zachary’s story starts with Bob, our protagonist, coming across a strange box on the street. He immediately takes it home for further investigation and realizes it’s not just any box – this is a clone-making box! This may seem like an unusual day for most people, but Bob is no stranger to adventure.
“In the past we’ve made Bob’s books about Bob going on very big adventures and Bob going to really cool places like space and underwater,” says Zachary. “My friend Jacob and me have big imaginations so we make Bob and Tiny Bob have a lot of cool adventures. Our longest books have over 100 pages and include fun illustrations.”
All it takes is a tiny bit of DNA and Bob is face to face with his clone – Tiny Bob! One thing to note – Tiny Bob arrived on the scene with a packet of jelly beans in hand. Just something to consider if you’re concerned about sugar intake while cloning.
Back to the story! Bob and Tiny Bob head to school to further their education but run into some bullies that begin making fun of the Bobs. Tiny Bob immediately jumps into action and uses his super clone strength (and possibly jelly bean sugar high) to defeat the bullies!
At this point, you may be thinking, “Wow, clones sound great! I see no downside to this scenario!”
But before you start looking for a clone-making box of your own, be aware that clones have expensive taste. Right after fighting bullies, we find Tiny Bob rewarding himself with a 200ft flat screen TV that he conveniently paid for with Bob’s credit card!
There’s no time to dwell on that, however, as the Bobs then move on to become police officers and successfully stop a bank robbery! To celebrate, they have a huge feast and Tiny Bob eats so much he gets bigger than original Bob! Bob is understandably concerned and immediately rushes Tiny Bob to the doctor’s office. We can all let out a sigh of relief as the doctor assures Bob that clones grow very fast and this is a natural part of the process.
The action-packed story continues with Tiny Bob getting kidnapped! Luckily, Bob is able to save Tiny Bob and it seems like we’re in the clear…but Zachary adds one more twist – Tyson the dog steals Bob’s clone machine!
Wondering what will happen next? Fortunately, we get a preview from our Author of the Month: “Tyson will bring the clone machine to his house and he will make a clone of his own and he will have a huge adventure.”
Of course, we have to ask, what would Zachary do if he could make a clone?
“I would make my clone do my schoolwork for me,” says Zachary. Hopefully, so he will have more time to write new stories with Jacob!

My friend Jacob Mattson bought it for me for my birthday.
Yes, I love writing books with my friend Jacob. We started in fourth grade around October. So far we’ve made about 80 Bob’s books.
We were thinking about which book to make to get published. And then we thought about Bob’s clone and thought it would be fun to make. In the past we’ve made Bob’s books about Bob going on very big adventures and Bob going to really cool places like space and underwater.
I would make my clone do my schoolwork for me.
My friend Jacob and me have big imaginations so we make Bob and Tiny Bob have a lot of cool adventures. Our longest books have over 100 pages and include fun illustrations.
I liked drawing and coming up with the words. On this book, Jacob did most of the drawing and I wrote most of the words. It was fun to also include my dog Tyson in this book.
It felt great! I liked that it was laminated and it felt like a real book instead of just a paper one with staples.
Tyson, my dog, because he was the inspiration to a lot of the books and he is the best dog ever. (don’t tell my other dog Molly)
That at the end of the story, Tyson found the clone machine and then the book ended.
Just use your imagination and entertain everyone.
