Lulu Junior’s Drawtober Challenge For Kids
From stories to artwork to any kind of craft you can imagine, you want to do everything you can to foster creativity with your kids. One way to do that is through creating a regular drawing habit! Drawing on a blank piece of paper helps to stimulate creativity, imagination, and self-expression.
That’s why we created our first-ever #LuluJuniorDrawtober challenge on Instagram where we’re sharing 31 prompts for kids to draw something spooky each day! Curious to learn more about the contest, how to enter, and what your child could possibly win? Read on!
What exactly is Drawtober?
The idea is simple. We provide inspiration with our list of prompts, and your child brings on the creativity by drawing their interpretation of those prompts. Each day this month, have your kids follow the daily prompt. They can use our IlluStory template pages or whatever they have. The great thing about drawing prompts is that it allows your kids to think as abstractly as they choose to. Often, children want to unleash their creativity and imagination, but don’t know where to start, and these prompts are a perfect way to give them free rein. But why is it important to encourage your little ones to draw? What are the benefits?
Why Draw?
Drawing is so much more than some pictures. The benefits of it are endless. In fact, according to Education Advisor at Affinity Education Group, Jola Sung, “Children are effective communicators and through the creative arts, children learn to make meaning and freely express their thoughts, ideas, and feelings. Drawing also acts as a powerful way for caregivers to understand how a child is feeling.”
In addition, drawing helps children…
- Develop fine motor skills
- Feel more confident
- Solve problems creatively
- Improve hand-eye coordination
- Be more expressive
And that’s just to name a few. To top all of that, drawing is a skill that can play a role in different subject areas including literacy. When a child draws a picture, they are telling a story and that can play a significant role in enabling children to become young writers.
