6 Fun Family Activities for the Holidays
A couple weeks back, we looked at some great ways to keep your kids entertained during the holiday season. But once the gifts are wrapped and the dinner prepared, then it’s time for family activities!
Well, we’ve got you covered there too. Let’s go through a few favorite family activities to do with your kids this year. From cooking sweets to games to even more exciting bonding opportunities, we’re here with great ways to have fun this holiday season.
Let’s get into it
Bake - Cookies? Cookies!!
Classic, but a great place to start. We all have holiday memories of fresh baked cookies. Hot and gooey out of the oven. So now is the perfect time to share that recipe with a new generation.
Bring the whole family into the kitchen! Cooking and baking together offer a great way to teach kids while bonding. You’ll get to spend time with your kids and they’ll learn valuable skills like measuring, mixing, and following directions. Best of all? Everyone is rewarded with delicious cookies!

Shop NowPut on a Talent Show
Okay, baking cookies is fine if you’ve got one or two kids. But put more than three in the kitchen with you and a family activity is liable to turn into a messy nightmare. Fear not! There’s still a ton of great ways to have fun with a big family!
Like putting on a talent show or forming an impromptu choir! This activity is great too because it can easily extend beyond your family to include neighbors or friends and their children. And studies have shown that singing together is a terrific way to bond.
Any kind of activity that engages imagination and performance offers a way to have fun as a family.
Family Game Night
Break out Monopoly, Life, or Sorry! and start the fun! The bias against gaming has been steadily fading over the years. Scholars even point to the many benefits—including teaching kids to think analytically, play fairly, and teamwork. It’s arguably even more important to foster kids at home with regular play.
So take a break from all the holiday craziness and just spend an hour or two playing a board game with your kids. And thanks to the recent surge in gaming interest, you can easily find fun and engaging games at all levels.
Do an Escape Room Challenge
Yeah I know, this one is kind of intense. But check out this Pathway 2 Success bundle. Just like a Lulu Junior Kit, the escape room bundle includes the basic for seven escape room challenges you can do at home!
Similar to family game nights, an escape room helps kids bond, work as a team, and develop great problem-solving skills. And they are a TON of fun!
Particularly if your kids are younger, doing your own escape room is perfect. Many of the services that offer escape room challenges are geared toward adults. But now you can bring that same fun and adventure home!
Go Outside
This one can be tough. As far as family activities go, outdoor activities hinge on the weather and climate. But after the first real snow of the season settles in, there is little more fun than building a snowman or having a (gentle) snowball fight.
Or if you live in a warmer climate, get out and take a short hike. Or go to the park and run around with your kids. Especially at the time of year when you’ll likely be packing your kids in the car for long or short road trips, a little outside time can be a huge refresher for everyone.
Don’t underestimate the value of some fresh air and physical activity. It’ll do everyone in the family good.
Scavenger Hunt
Last idea and it’s a pretty simple one. Hide stuff around the house and send your kids in search of the items! This can be a fun and rewarding family activity too.
Or maybe you make a list of common items (umbrellas, Legos, coffee shops, etc.) and have fun at the local mall or shopping center. The beauty of a scavenger hunt is that it can be as involved or as simple as you want and still provide hours of fun.
Family Activities are About Family
Remember that the point of any group activity is to have fun and spend time together. With the holidays being such a busy time, it’s important to take a moment whenever you can to just relax and have fun as a family, no matter what activities that might entail!
