Get ready for an exciting adventure in August’s featured story! This month, our spotlight is on Calvin and his captivating tale, “Four Portals.” We get to meet intriguing characters who face unexpected twists along their journey. Keep reading to discover what unfolds!
We meet a few friends! Meet Roby, Ruby, and Sunday. They can live comfortably because of Sunday.
We meet another friend Jojo who is looking at her phone. She tells everyone that they need to go inside; there is going to be a portal storm and a tornado! Everyone goes down to the basement.
They all do a tornado drill. All of a sudden, they see a flash of light. Many portals appear and are open, and they are all taken into different ones. They now have to try and find each other to reunite!
As Jojo goes through the portal, she starts to transform. Her hands and feet sink into her body, her hair changes, and she transforms into a fireball with a pink blade.
Sunday goes through his portal and transforms. He starts to shrink and turns orange and becomes a turbo ball!
Ruby is in his portal and starts to undergo his transformation. He is surrounded by water. He turns into a water ball! He swims around and swims in many lakes.
Roby goes through his portal and turns into a water ball, too.
Jojo comes out of her portal and she begins jumping around. Ruby emerges from her portal in her waterball form and jumps into the water. She finds the treasure! She looks inside and there is an egg in a chest.
The egg begins to hatch! What is it? It’s a DINOSAUR! It’s a T-Rex that says its name is Rexy.
Roby makes his way out of his portal and finds Ruby with the egg. The end!

Where did you get your Lulu Junior kit? Who gave it to you?
At my Gigi’s house and my Aunt Lauren and Uncle Bobby gifted it to me at Christmas.
Where did you get your idea for your story?
I thought of 4 characters and 4 portals.
How does it feel to be a published author?
I just felt happy to write a new book and it was very fun because I thought up all these ideas and I thought I could make another version of it that I told my brothers about. I’m really excited and I’m ready to write the 2nd book!
What's the one piece of advice you'd share with another young writer?
Make sure you have a big mind.
What do you like to do when you're not writing?
I like to play video games because those are my favorite. I especially like playing creating phone cases (a specific game).
Do you prefer writing or illustrating? Why?
I prefer illustrating and writing because I feel inspired and I enjoy using my mind. I like using my mind and writing down what’s in my mind. It's a good feeling to be an author.
What's one of your favorite books?
Gum Girl.
How do you like to set up your writing/drawing space?
I specifically love creating at my white desk in my room.
What inspires you to write or draw?
Imagination.
What do you want people to remember about your book?
I want people to remember that once they get really good at something they can keep doing it but they can also participate in something else.
