We’ve got quite an adventure story to share for May! Check out our featured tale, “A Dog’s Story” by Jocelyn. Let’s get started on this interesting journey.

There once was a girl named Leah who lived happily with her family. One day, she decides to go on a walk in the woods. While she is on her walk, she sees a tiny husky hiding in an evergreen bush. The husky puppy runs up to her but then runs a different way and looks back at Leah. It is as if the puppy wants Leah to follow her. Leah musters up her courage and decides to follow the puppy and go on an adventure.

The deeper they enter into the woods, the darker and scarier they turn. While walking, they encounter a mountain lion! Oh no! Leah gets bit on the hand but the puppy defends Leah. There was a loud “BOOM!” and the mountain lion was scared away.

The loud boom came from Hunter Talyor. He is kind and selfless. Leah asks if she can join him on his journey, and they proceed. Suddenly, they encounter a pack of wolves! Hunter Talyor fights bravely, and the puppy defends Leah again. She decides to call the puppy, Chiri.

As the trio continues, they realize they are lost. Hunter Talyor calls Search and Rescue, and an hour later, they are found! They all go home. Leah’s mom cries with joy now that Leah is back home and they are reunited.

A month passes, and Leah starts to train Chiri how to become a search and rescue dog. There was an earthquake in Montana, so this was the opportunity for Chiri to demonstrate her skills. They take an airplane from Juno, Alaska to Montana. They arrived at the site, and sadly, it was a disaster. Chiri is able to find five people but she hurts her shoulder trying to help a little girl. They go to the vet and it is confirmed that Chiri has a broken shoulder. Chiri has to rest for at least three months while the injury heals.

Three months pass, and Chiri is healed! It was time for her to get back into action. This time, Chiri and Leah head to Florida to help after a hurricane. Multiple search and rescue teams were helping, and together, they rescued over 500 people. They even saved a horse that was stuck underwater. They keep the horse and name him Ash. Leah trains Ash to become a search and rescue horse.

They all return home to Alaska together. They have had so many adventures together! The search and rescue team thinks Leah is the best! Leah continues to practice with Ash and Chiri. She knows they can do anything together!
