How-To: Dyed Paper Bookmarks
Spring is here! The sun is shining and flowers are blooming. This fun craft project celebrates the colors of spring by creating homemade dyed paper to turn into your very own bookmark. Chances are, you have these items on hand. This is a great kids craft to do on a sunny spring day! Today Lulu Junior is going to show you the step-by-step process on how to dye your own paper using food coloring and shaving cream to create your own bookmark.
Items Needed:
- Food coloring
- White shaving cream
- Paper for your bookmark (download free printable bookmarks)
- Cardboard, plastic wrap, newspaper, or whatever you have on hand to cover your work space
- Sticks and a spatula (toothpicks, chopsticks, wooden skewers, or popsicle sticks work to create the beautiful swirl patterns)
- A tray to make your creation in (disposable tray, old cookie sheet, or a sturdy cardboard box will do!)
- Ruler or painter's stick
Step One
Once your work surface is set up, fill your tray with shaving cream. Then add a few drops of food coloring to the shaving cream. Take your stick or spatula (your stick will create more of an intricate pattern while the spatula will create more of a marbled look) to mix the dye with the shaving cream.
Step Two
Next, press your paper on top of shaving cream. Then, pull the paper up and use the ruler to scrape the shaving cream off. Set aside to dry.
Step Three
Once dried, cut your bookmark out and enjoy it with your favorite book!
We hope you enjoy creating your own bookmark with dyed paper. Once your bookmark is complete, enjoy it with a good book on a lovely Spring day!
