Lulu Junior Author Of The Month – Ava Schoessow

By Emma Gutierrez / March 02, 2021

And just like that, we’re into March and back at it with a new featured author! Is it just us or did last month absolutely FLY by?! We’ve got a great adventure story for you by Ava Schoessow! Ava wrote, “Trent’s Royal Mission” which details the travels of Trent and Lea to fulfill a king’s royal request!

Let’s get right into it!

Our main character, Trent had a huge grin and an important letter in his hand from King Teight. He called over to his younger sister, Lea, to come into the room to share the letter with her. Lea was excited to see what it said, she just had to know!

They had a mission from King Teight himself! They were to bring Princess Sara home from Mount White Paws. She was a doctor who was now done helping the sick.

Lea had always wanted to meet the Princess. What a perfect opportunity!

Trent and Lea decided to leave right away. They packed up a few things and started their mission.

After hard and rough traveling they finally made it. They bowed as they greeted the Princess. Princess Sara placed her paws on their heads. She told them how excited she was to start the adventure with the both of them!

As they headed on their way, Trent’s ears picked up a sound. He motioned over to his sister to be quiet. They heard a stick snap and a dark figure came from the bushes. Out stepped the ringleader of the Black Bandits.

Trent’s heart was racing as the rest of the gang stepped out. Trent nodded to Lea who immediately sprung into action! She grabbed Princess Sara’s paw and they started running. Trent followed and not far behind him were the bandits.

But what were they after? Trent figured it must be Princess Sara’s jewels. They knew they couldn’t fail on their mission and let down King Teight.

The sky began to fill with dark clouds. The Black Bandits were out of sight. They all thought they must have lost them. As they continued, they came upon a field just as it started to sprinkle…. And the downpour began. They needed to find shelter from all the rain.

The group ran in the rain as they searched for somewhere they could keep dry. Lea was the first to spot a house with lights turned on. Trent knocked on the door. Nobody answered. Trent knocked again this time but louder. An old kitty came to the door. “How may I help you?” She asked.

Lea stepped up and asked if they could come in as it was pouring rain. The old kitty let them into the house and introduced herself as Ms. Needle and she kindly gave them some blankets. Ms. Needle asked the trio what they were doing in the rain. Trent let her know they were on a mission for the King. Ms. Needle was kind enough to let them stay the night and the next morning they were up early to continue on their journey making sure they were on the lookout for the Black Bandits.

Princess Sara asked, “how much farther do we have to go?” To which Trent replied that they just had to go through the Whisker Forest before they reached their destination.

As they were making their way through the forest, Leah heard something. Trent started to run and said, “…let’s pick up the pace, just in case it’s the Black Bandits again.” As they were running sticks began to fall all on the ground. Trent’s poor foot got caught and he fell facedown and grabbed his foot in pain.

Luckily, Princess Sara was there. That had a doctor who knew exactly what to do. She pulled some gauze out of her bag and wrapped Trent’s wound.

They were able to continue their journey as it only took a few minutes for Trent to walk on his own.

By lunchtime, they finally reached the castle. King Teight had prepared a feast in honor of Trent and Lea.

At the feast, King Teight thanked his “best agents” for bringing his daughter home safely. He even rewarded them both with a medal for their bravery. They left feeling super proud and full of happiness!

A while later, they received a letter from King Teight again who also made a joke about watching out for the sticks! Trent would need to be careful on the next mission the King sent them on!

A great royal adventure we went on reading Ava’s story! Thank you to Ava for letting us showcase “Trent’s Royal Mission”!

Where did you get your Lulu Junior kit? Who gave it to you?
I got my kit from my mom so I could enter Rainbow Resource’s book contest.

Where did you get your idea for your story?
I wanted to write about two animals that go on a mission. I picked cats and then decided to name one cat after my big brother.

How does it feel to be a published author?
It feels nice to have a book to read that I wrote! It makes me want to do it again.

Who did you dedicate your book to and why?
I dedicated my book to my big brother, Trent, because I love him very much.

What’s the one piece of advice you’d share with another young writer?
It says in the Bible that “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” – Colossians 3:23. As long as you keep your mind to it you can accomplish great things for the Lord!

What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
Most of the time I’m either playing with my siblings and bunnies, or talking with the Lord and studying the Bible.

Do you prefer writing or illustrating? Why?
I prefer to write because I feel that I can express my feelings more with writing than drawing. Also, writing is easier than drawing because I do it more.

What’s one of your favorite books?
I LOVE The Green Ember series by S. D. Smith. They’re full of action and humor.

How do you like to set up your writing/drawing space?
I have a binder that keeps all of my work. Normally, I like to sit on the couch. However, I worked on Trent’s Royal Mission at our kitchen table.

What inspires you to write or draw?
Mostly from playing with the toys we have. I’ll be playing with one toy for a while and then it turns into a story that I have to write down.

What do you want people to remember about your book?
It doesn’t take certain people to go on adventures. All you need is courage. Everyone has it. You just have to find it.
