Author of the Month - Cecilia H.
We’ve got a fantastic story for June! Our featured June author is Cecilia H. who wrote the story, “Boy Meets Dragon.” She wrote a feel-good story about helping people when they need it. Let’s get into it!
There’s a dragon named Max. He lives out in the desert. There is a human boy named Plum. He is lost in the desert.
Max is headed to school and decides to take a shortcut; that is when he finds Plum. They introduce themselves and Max takes Plum to his house to meet his parents, and sister, Lily. Lily is 3 years old.
They eat salad and drink ice-cold water to cool down. They even have a popsicle as a little treat. After they eat, Max invites Plum to play. They go outside and play baseball. They go back inside and play hide and seek. They are so happy to be friends!
They find out they love the same movie - “The Dragon King.” After the movie, it's time to go to sleep. Max’s room was well prepared, he already had a bunk bed!
The next morning, Max and Plum get ready for their first school day together. They eat yummy chocolate chip waffles for breakfast. Once they get to the school, the teacher lets in Plum even though he is a human and everyone else is a dragon.
After school ends, Plum begins to think about his parents and his family and how much he misses them. But no fear! Max to the rescue. Max has just learned to fly. It was sunset and Plum climbed onto Max’s back and they flew back to Plum’s hometown of Brentwood.
They arrive and Plum tells his parents about how much he loves the desert and he doesn’t want to leave. Plum’s parents realize how happy he is and decide they will move to the desert so that everyone can be together.
Plum and Max end up living in houses right next to each other. They are able to play and have so much fun together and live happily ever after!
Cecilia’s story serves as a reminder that it’s important to take time to help people who may need it and that it’s important to take care of our friends and family.

Where did you get your Lulu Junior kit? Who gave it to you?
I got my kit from my aunt Ariana as a Christmas gift.
Where did you get your idea for your story?
I love dragons so much and I wanted to make a story about dragons. I added a human character in the story to connect it to me. The boy, Plum, even lives in Brentwood, like me.
How does it feel to be a published author?
I feel proud to be an author and have my book.
What's the one piece of advice you'd share with another young writer?
Use your imagination and never give up.
What do you like to do when you're not writing?
I like to play with my dog Daisy and my friends outside. I enjoy playing basketball and reading.
Do you prefer writing or illustrating? Why?
I prefer illustrating because it’s my own picture and it’s original.
What's one of your favorite books?
Mine, of course! And I love the entire Dog Man series.
How do you like to set up your writing/drawing space?
I like my space to be organized and clean so I can focus on just writing and drawing.
What inspires you to write or draw?
Normally I’m inspired by toys, stuffed animals, movies or even other books. I think about their story and my imagination runs wild.
What do you want people to remember about your book?
I want people to know that I worked really hard on it. And when you read my book, the moral is that you should always help people when they need it, physically or emotionally and that family and friends are really important to take care of.
